COLLIERY DISASTER.
IN COLORADO MINE. New York. Wednesday. A tragedy,'which probably involvea the loss of 50 lives, is reported from the Vulcan mine, in the neighbourhood of Newcastle, Colorado. While the day shift was below a great explosion wrecked a portion of the mine, entombing about 50 miners. Reesuer? have attempted to descend the abaft, but have been driven back, some in a condition of collapse, owing to the deadly effects of aftpr-damp. RESCUERS ENTER THE MINE. ENTOMBED MEN ALL DEAD. New York, Thursday. Thirty-eight miners are dead as the result of the explosion in the Vulcan mine. The rescuers have been unable to find a single living person in the mine. Several bodies have been recovered. It is not known whether the explosion was due to dust or gas. F.escue work is continuing.
