THE MEXICAN SITUATION.
BRITISH WARSHIPS SENT. Mexico City, Thursday. Advices from Kingston, Jamaica, state that (he British cruisers Lancaster and Hermione have been ordered to proceed at full Bpeed to Mexican ports. The Suffolk and Berwick are already cruising in Mexicn waters. An overwhelming force of rebels is reported to be about to attack Tampico, where many foreigners reside. " It is not known if the dispatch of the warships is connected with this advance. Congress has nullified the presidential elections, and fixed new elections for July. Congress gave as its reason for nullifying the elections that less than one-quarter of the electors throughout Mexico voted. It is understood that the postponement of the new elections is due to General Huerta's suggestion. It is likely that General Huerta will now continue his present attitude towards the United States, an attitude that is based on the contention that he id the only possible Governor in Mexico, pending a new presidential elec tion.
