OBITUARY.
MR CHARLES GORE. The death took place on Thursday afternoon of Mr Charles Gore, a wellknown figure in athletic circles in Wellington. The late Mr Gore, who was a member of the staff of the Crown Lands Office, was at one time a well-known cricketer. He represented Wellington and New Zealand on many occasions, the last occaison being against Canterbury eleven years ago. Old cricketers will remember his free and attractive style of batting, and will also recall his alert and reliable "out cricket," especially in the long field. Mr Gore was a member of the old Wellington Cricket Club. He also was a prominent athlete. In this class of sport he was a champion hurdle racer and high jumper. He also frequently represented Wellington on the tennis coords, and he was considered to be one of the tennis champions of his day. Of late years he had been an enthusiastic golfer. During the present strike he acted as a special constable, and only as late as last week he was on duty on the wharves. A few days ago he caught a chill, and subsequently contracted pneumonia, the terimnation being a fatal one. The late Mr Gore's friends knew him as a man of high character, and his genial, attractive personality endeared him to all. Mr Gore was a brother of Mrs N. C. Matthew, of Te Kuiti. and the news of his untimely death was received locally on Thursday afternoon. Mr Matthew leaves for Wellington this afternoon to attend the funeral, which takes place to-morrow.
