OTOROHANCA.
Own Correspondent. TENNIS. A meeting convened by Mr C. Elliott was held at the Commercial House on Monday evening, with the object of forming a tennis club in Otorohanga. There was a good attendance and Mr Elliott was voted to the chair. The chairman gave a resume of the season 1910-1911, when the old club became defunct, the minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed, the balance-sheet showing a credit balance of £3 4s 4d was adopted. On the proposition of Mr Worthington a club to be called the Otorohanga Ten nis Club was formed with the following officers:—Patron, Mr T. G. Eosking; president, Mr W. Vieary; vicepresidents, Messrs W. Worthington and J. Phillips with ten others to be elected by a committee; secretary, and treasurer, Mr C. Elliott; committee, Messrs Worthington, Elliott, Mesage, Hosking, and Phillips; auditor, Mr Frank Forster. The entrance fee for present season was fixed at, gentlemen 10s, ladies ss. The chairman explained that the School Committee had been approached re school court, and had sanctioned the use of the court to club member for this season provided the court was not used by them during school hours. It was decided to write and thank the committee for this concession. The committe were authorised to make efforts to secure a suitable ground for future seasons and to report progress at next meeting of the club. It was resolved to procure four racquets to be given to the school children in lieu of a donaton for use of school court. Messrs J. Phillips and H. J. Osmond offered to donate a racquet each to be given to the two children who had shown the most progress in tennis at the end of the season. The chairman thanked them on behalf of the School Committee for their kind offer, which was gratefully accepted. TE RAU-A-MAUKU SOCIAL. A concert and dance was held at Te Rau-a-Mauku on Wednesday night. Songs were contributed by Mrs Harvey, Miss Hcrsman, Misa Davidson, Messrs Taylor, Parkinson, and Eli Mitchell (humorist). Recitations were also given by Rev. Harvey and Mr Murphy. The Otorohanga drum and fife band was in attendance and gave selections during the evening. An enjoyable supper was partaken of at Mr Parkinson's and dancing continued till the small hours. A very pleasant evening was spent by ali present. SCHOOL PRIZES. The prizes to be presented to-day, have been won by the followng:— Standard 6: Herbert Cassey 1, V. Hall 2, E. Hall 3. Standard 5: K. Worthington 1, V. Claike 2, D. Morrissey.S. Standard 4: F. Heerdegen 1, C. Hall 2, J. Elliott 3. Standard 3: L. Rhodes 1, H. Cloeey 2, M. Thompson 3. Standard 1: F. Harrison 1, D. Wallace 2, K. Bishop 3. Primer 3 F. Harsant 1, R. Funnell 2, A. McDonald 3. Primer 2; J. Bernsten 1, J McDonald 2, P. Aukett 3. Primer 1: L. Hall 1, M. King 2, L. Hyams 3. Several special prizes are also to be presented. GENERAL. In the near future several large metalling contracts will be in full swing in close proximity to the township, viz.: Otorohanga to Otewa, Otorohanga to Kio Kio, and Otorohanga to Puketarata. From January Ist nest the fee for private letter boxes in the post office will be £1 per annum instead of 10s as heretofore. The extra charge is being made on account of a leter carrier having been appointed recently.
