THE STRIKE.

I WORKING THE TOFUA. A CREW PROVIDED. By TeleKraph.—rress Association.—CopyrigUt Received Tuesday, 10.25 p.m. Sydney\ Tuesday. In view of the fact that the Tofua left Auckland before the trouble commenced a combined Unionß' Conference decided to provide a crew to take her back to Auckland. UNION COMPANY'S ENGINEERS.

MEETING AT SYDNEY. Received this day, 9.50 a.m. Sydney, This Day. At a Bpecial meeting of over 70 members of the Australasian Institute of Marino Engineers attended by practically by all the Union Company's engineers in port it was resolved by an overwhelming majority that while allowing discretion where perishable cargo was concerned that Rule 87 must be loyally observed. The rule prohibits members from manually assisting in keeping steam working the winches, or in any way taking the place of unskilled labour. The threatening of the engineers not to resume work on New Zealand vessels is occasioning concern. The seamen are also apparently unreliable in this direction. The Makura which was advertised to sail for Vancouver next Monday may not obtain a crew. There is some talk of the Willocbra taking up her running.
