BOWLING.
The weather has been decidedly against outdoor pastimes this seaBon and little has been doing on the local bowling green during the past week. However, on Saturday afternoon an interesting full rink game was played between the holders of the challenge mugs and the team which was defeated by Hamilton the previous week. The green was somewnat heavy in consequence of the rain, bat otheswiae it was in excellent trim. The challengers took the lead from the first head and held their advantage till the finish. In the last head the mug holders required four to save the game and were lying two when the skips went down to deliver the last two bowb. Julian put in an excellent block and prevented Power from driving, the game finishing 27 — 25. The teams wer9 Williams, Matthew, Cochrane, Power (skip), 25 v. j Dransfield, Steel, Steyens, Julian (skip) 27. Entries are being received for the championship singles and handicap singles, and some interesting contests are anticipated. It should be noted that entries close on Monday nest, December Bth. The regulation made in connection with teams competing for the Cochrane ferns, to the effect that no more than two players from the A section shall be included is welcome. It will ; serve to give the younger players an j opportunity of taking part in good games and give additions! interest to a {popular competition. Incidentally it may be mentioned that the holders of the trophies wili require to reorganise their r . team, as three A gection players are included in the combination. A number of the younger plavers are showing esceilent form this season, and in the choice of a second club team competition for the places is likely to be extremely keen. Indeed it is quite on the cards that apart from the recognised first rink at least two other teams couid be chosen which would provide an excellent contest. It ia probable steps will be taken to arrange some games with a view to deciding tha point. ZA challenge pairs match has bean airanged between Matthew and Williams and Dransfield and Steel. Both sides are confident of success, and are practising assiduously for the contest. Other challenges are mooted, and as soon ss the weather permits there is every likelihood of busy times on the green.
