—■ ■- ■■•©—©■ SHOWERY OPENING DAY FOR SHOW. FINE DISPLAY OP HORSES. The twenty-second annual show under the auspices of the Waikato A. arid P. Association was opened at Hamilton yesterday in showery weather. The entries in most classes were up to those of the previous year, while a considerable increase in the horse section brought the total of exhibits to rather more than a hundred in excess of last year's total, the figures reading 1808, as. compared with 1913. The light horse section is a particularly strong one. There are no less than in the champion hunter's competition, foi which a prize of £SO is offered. Amongst the heavy draughts are some entries from Mr E. Short's well-known Parorangi stud, which form a strong feature of this section, and the same owner has also entered several of his well-knon show hocks. Among the cattle in the Shorthorn classes, Mr W. Taylor, of 'GreenhiU, Te Awamutu, and Mr W. G. Park were the only exhibitors. The Greenhill breeders' Palmerston North champion bull was brought out in tip-top condition, and again secured championship honours. Mr W. Taylor also showed a strong team of red Lincoln Shorthorns. Competition in pedigree Hereforda was confined to Mr A. Macfarlane, of Hautapu, and Mr R. Glynn Lewis, of Okoroire, the latter exhibiting his imported stock. Jerseys were a fairly strong section, Mr W. J. Halliday and the Ruakura State Farm being the chief exhibitors. In Ayrshires entries in the name of Mr F. C. Lichfield and Porirua Mental Hospital, were Competition in the Holstein classes was particularly keen, and Mr W. I. Lovelock, of Palmerston North, brought up several typical animals from his well-known herd which have already carried oft many and the chief prizes at the principal shows held this season. The heavy rain of the previous night rather militated against the appearance of the sheep:. Among the Lincolns Messrs W Perry, the known Masterton breeder, T. Crago and C. T. Barriball, both of Te Av;> mutu, were the chief exhibitor?. English wore represented by entries from Messrs G. Grnhnm, J. W. McCarthy. S. R. Lancaster, and E. Dobbs. The Romney Marsh classes were bardly as well filled as usual, though the quality of some of iheexhibits was exceedingly gi-od. Air W. Perry entered a strong -earn. Other breeders included S. Stnndon, C. C. Buekhmd, rnd E. M. Masters.
