A STRIKE PREVENTATIVE.

LABOUR COMMISSION SUGGESTED. At the Wellington Harbour Board's meeting on Wednesday night a sug" gestion was put forward for the establishment in each of the major porta of New Zealand of a standing committee or commission of nine members representing the following interests: Harbour Board, ocean-going, inter-colonial and coastal vessels, coal workers, the Railway Department (one each), waterside labourers (2), and a chairman (who should be stipendiary magistrate representing the Government). The duties of the commission would be to determine the amount of casual labour required from month to month at each season of the year, and employ that number of hands at a minimum wage, waterside labour to be engaged from the commission and none other employed til! the panel is exhausted.
