The sLove prizes are offered for an Essay on ''The Advantages of Doing One's Business in Te Kuiti." There are at present first-class facilities for doing all classei of business in Te Kuiti. These would undoubtedly be increased and better services ensured if all residents in the district made use of them. There would be more competition, bigger stocks kept in the shops, lower prices, more banks and kindied institutions; money would be _ kept in the district, the voting power would be enormously enhanced and roading, etc., advanced. s A FEW SUGGESTED HEADINGS. Local Patriotism. The interest of your centre is your interest. Avoiding disadvantages of goods 0 not arriving from outside places in r _ time with consequent disappointment and waste of time. . Advantages of personal selection. Rise of rural land valueß with growth of centre. Values of rural land bear a relation to their proximity to a good centre, e Getting goods more frequently saves carrying larger stocks than necessary s and consequently releases capital, n Money spent in the district is money kept in the district. y CONDITIONS. • Esaayß to be signed with a nom-de-plume and NOT with competitor's name, which must be enclosed in a ~ sealed envelope and attached to the essay. Writing to be on one side of the t paper only, to be sent in to reach the secretary of the Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce (Mr A. E. Robinson) before December 18th next. Children's essays to be certified to by the schoolmaster or schoolmistress of competitors, Btating age, school and class, which will be taken into consideration in awarding prizes. The competition is open to thoße living within the following boundaries: Southern, Ongarue townIship; Northern and Eastern Waitomo County; Weßtern, Waitomo and Awakino Counties. JUDGES. The Mayor of le Kuiti, the proprietor of the King Country Chronicle, and the president of the Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce will judge the 3 essays, and from their decision there s will be no appeal.
