AUCKLAND WOOL SALE.
NEARLY 6000 BALES CATALOGUED. EXCELLENT PROSPECTS. The catalogues for the first Auckland wool sale of the season closed last night, arrangements having been made by the Auckland Wool Brokers' Association to permit further entries to be made yesterday go that all wool reaching the city yesterday will be included. The sale will be held in the Town Hall on Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. A total of 8309 bales was offered at the first sale of last seaons, and although transport by water has been hampered by the strike, it is exDected that the catalogue for nest week's salß will comprise between 5500 and 6000 bates, which will compare very favourably with those of previous opening sales. The wool is coming forward in good condition, and it is expected thac there will be a good attendance of buyers, with keen competition. The recent revision of the United States tariff, by which wool waH placed on the tree list, will have an important effect on the operations of American buyers during this season's sales. In the past, representatives of American firms h°ve been restricted by the heavy duty imposed on raw wool, and tbeir attentions have been confined to the comparatively small proportion of clean, fine wools, with the result that vrey high prices have often been given for special lots, English and Continental buyers frequently standing aside while the American bidders contested for lines of this character.
