PUBLIC WORKS ESTIMATES.
DELAY IN PARLIAMENT. POSITION OF COUNTY COUNCIL. The Public Works Estimates for the currant year, which are generally introduced and dealt with in Parliament in October, are somewhat later than usual this year. The matter was men tioned by the Co-jnty chairman at Monday evening';; meeting. Mf Scholessaid the early production of the Estimates and the prompt furnishing of authorities was of the utmost importance to local bodies. The matter had been tha medium of considerable agitation in previous years, and usually "<he Council was in receipt of numerous communicaions from the settlers concerning the publication of the Estimates. This year no complaints or inquiries had bean received. Possibly the settlers were supporters of Mr Massey, and were [jeontent to wait. However, the position was that with the late production of the Estimates the authorities .would probably not bs available till the middle of January. The Council might be blamed for the late starting of works, and he thought it only fair to let the public know the position. Two years ago the Estimates had been furnished and the authorities for expending the same were to hand at the beginning of November.
