The first local tennis match of the season was playad on Saturday last when a team of Taumarunui enthusiasts came to try conclusions with our players. The day was beautifully fine and he court fact, and sonic exciting contests were witnessed. There was time for but nine matches, and of these Mangapehi won live to Tauraurunui's fjur. The match was not a Shield event, but merely a friendly contest. At first 3-set matches Were plaved, but, as time was limited, the best of 17 games style was adopted. Following are the scores, the home players being mentioned first:— Men's Singles.—Hayson v. Gray, 8 —9; Buck v. Ross, 4—6, 3—(J; Brumby v. Larking, 6 —5, 3—6, 6 —4. Ladies' Singles.—Miss W. Johnson v. Miss A. Symons, 9 —3. Men's Doubles. —Hayson and Seymour v. Lorking and Gray, 7 —9; Buck and Brumby v. Ross and Gampey, 9 7. Ladies' Doubles.—Misses Johnson v. Misses Symons and Garrett, 9—2. Combined Doubles. —Miss Johnson and Hayqon v. Miss Symons and Gray, 6— 4, 6—2; Miss'McCracken and Seymour v. Mrs Strang and Lorking. 6 —9.
