LARGE LAND DEALS.
A strong demand continues JBhSJl', for farming purposes in the province, and two large riisairwHr jUBt taken place. An area of (u,' o acres near Lichfield has been sold to a southern syndicate for over £90,000, and a block of 30,040 acres has been acquired by a local company for £54,250. The southern syndicate's purchase comprises the Maraeta block, near Lichfield, between the Selwyn estate, which was cut up some time ago by the Government, and the Waikato river. The syndicate intends to subdivide the block into moderatesized farms,Jand proposes to cultivate areas on its own accord in order to Bhow what this class of land can be made to produce in the shape of clover grasses and root crops. In the same district the lokoroa block of 23,000 acres, which was cut up some time ago by a southern syndicate, is being steadily settled. Several purchasers arc already in occupation of their holdings, and are beginning to make improvements. The second large land deal concerns a block situated about a mile and a half north of Dargaville, and stretching about twelve miles north beside the Ksihu Valley railway, with five railway stations on the estate. The land includes about 5000 acres of rich Bwamps with some twenty miles of drains already in existence. It is the company's intention to subdivide the whole of the black into lots of from 50 to 1000 acres.
