An apology was received .or his non-a'ctendnnce. Road Through Native Lands. —The Department of Lands, Auckland, wrote with reference to propped roads through native lands. With reference to road through RangiLotcikihua i34G. the proper coarse was for tie lessee or purchaser interested in Jfangitoto-Tuhua (34 E Xo. :■] to apply to the judge of the Naiive Lard Court, -Auckland, to make an order for road. Y/ith regard to application for road to Tahaia th..ck. through Whsreraurekau Nos. 3A and ?3 blocks and Orahiri . No. 1 sections 13A and 22, the road had never been defined by survey. Quite a ler.gthv discussion on the matter of native roads ensued and it was finally iscided en the motion of Cr Gregg, that the Council apply for warrant in favour of a survey of northern boundji'v of Waipa, subject to Council's usaal conditions. Crs Berry and Johnston moved that the Council urge up'm the Minister of Lands the advisability of devising some definite plan of reading the native lands in the King County. i Riding Boundaries, The UnderSecretary supplied special order made by Waitomo County Council altering riding and fixing boundaiies representation. —Received. District Health. The District Health Officer wrote with reference to contribution of £5 and directed that same he placed to the credit of the Waikato Hospital Board account,— Received.

Kawa Bridge.— Mr H. W. Muttish enquired whether provision had been made for supervision and offering services. Public Works Department, Auckland, re same, in reply to memo from Council, stating that Mr Muttish would be a mo3t suitable man. The clerk stated that Mr Muttish had pince been appointed, which action was endorsed by Council. Mangaotaki Road. —Several settlers wrote objecting to tbeir thirds being spent in metalling Pio Pio end of road. | —Mr Daly waited un the Council and explained that the road was absolute'ly impassable for vehicular traffic. The wool season waß at hand and it was imperative that the thoroughfare should bi. culverted. The settlers could g"t though mud, but it was the culverts that prevented a passage. The engineer explained the position taken up by the Council stating he had seen seveial of tha settlers interested, who had favoured spending £BO of the accrued thirds in metalling, end £2O in repairing the worst places at the back end. With reference to the culverts he said it was considered too expensive to cart timber for the culverts from Te Kuiti, and had arranged with Mr Lindsay to supply it. The latter, however, had not yet been able to do so. It was purely a matter of economy that the timber was to have ' been obtained from Mr Lindsay. Cr O'Dwyer said that it was generally understood to be a by-road, when, as a matter of fact, it wss a main thoroughfare, and it behoved the Council to do at once whatever was possible in its cower to assist the settles along the road. Several suggestions were made by councillor? with refere-ic? to the spending of thirds, Lui the clerk made it quite clear that thirdi were to be spent in specific: places. Finally it W2S decided on the motion of Cra O'Dwyar and Were that full power be given to the engineer and Cr O'Dwyer to niset the settlers, with power tn act. Te Kuiti-Te Kumi Road. Assis-tant-Road Engineer approved of Councils application for expenditure on receipt of formal authority of £157 10s £ for £.—Received. Pung2rehu Lrran. —After the chairman had explained the matters leading up to the present time, and stating he had got the settlers' consent for the extra £9OO, the Council proposed to drop the Fublic Trustee proposal and to accept the Government's of £29CU with £ for £ subsidy. Several councillors considered the Council were broking faith with the Fublic Trust. The chairman said the Council would probably have to pay a little for not lifting the amount ojhich was rvs"ioa=ly guaranteed by he Public Trust—The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and derk. Claim for Accident. —Messrs Broadfoot and Finlay wrote stating they had, ss solicitors for the Council, been served with writ for damages by acci dent to one of Mr Snowden's boys, andasking for execution of warrant to defend.—Execution had been granted. Pio Pio-Mairoa Loan.—Mr W. E, Johnston wrote stating that a resolution had been passed at Pio Pio, authorising to apply for £IOOO loan with £ for £ subsidy. —The clerk stated that he had applied for £2OOO with £ for £ subsidy, as it wa3 considered more advisable to do the whole six miles instead of leaving three miles in the centre unfinished, with both ends metalled. The Council's previous action to be pursued. Te Kuiti Borough Quarry. The town clerk asked the Council to overlook the omission of applying for permission to erect electric light poles to quarry.—Received Right of Grazing.—J. W. Robinson, Otorohanga, applied for permission to use Council's section at Otorohanga, guaranteeing to place fences in repair, etc. —Granted. Waitomo Roads, - Several 'settlers applied that £25 be spent on the road between Lang's junction and Wratten's homest<--fid.—Cr Johnstone endorsed the application and it was decided on the motion of Cra Gregg and Johnstone to leave the matter in the hands of Cr Johnstone and the engineer. Heavy traffic By-law.—A communication was read from Mr P. D. Elargreave3, with reference to heavy traffic on requesting alteration to by-laws, and offering to'give any Council in the matter.— Received. The Kawhia County Council suggested that the Council should co-oper-ate with Kawhia in bringing under the notice of the Minister of Public Works the desirability »/f authority being given to assistant engineer Public Works Department, Hamilton, to approve plans, etc., for roads, work to be carried out by Government grant.—The engineer explained the circumstances, and stated tnat as far as the Council was concerned it had no complaint to find. —Received. Blinding Arapae Road.—N. C. Innes offered to blind with rubble at 6d per yard extra on bis second contract. — CrWere said rubble would make a real good job of it. —Left to engineer. Sirkiing Rates. Pursuant to notice cf motion standing in bis name the chairman moved that a rate of 2d in the £ be struck over the ratable property in the County for the ensuing year. Seconded by Cr Berry. Cr Gregg considered that it would be better to strike k rate of fd in the £ over the whole County, and moved accordingly aa an amendment, which was seconded by Cr Were. Cr O'Dwyer asked whether a |d rate would be sufficient, ir.it on going into figures it was pointed out that it would be insufficient. In answer to Cr Gregg the clerk said the hospital and charitable aid rats next yesr would result in a sum of about £6OO.

The amendment, on being pv:i, was carried, Crs Gregg, Were, Smyth and O'Dwysr voting for and Crn Ber?f, Johnstone and Scholea against it. Resolutions Authorising Loans as under were carried: Waitanguni £2OO, Mangapu £6OO, Pangsrehu £2900 and 10 par cml. on Maiiva £llBO. Oaves road 10 per cant. £3OO, Honiki«i loan 10 per cent. £4OO. Valuation Rolls.—A resolution was carried, proposed by Crs Berry and Seholes, appreciating the manner in which the Valuation Department bad compiled the rolls to March 31st, 1913; and also to the Native Lard Board for the valuable assistance they had given in the same direction.
