A petition was coiirddsieri from the settlers on Manga'nui-Waikawa road asking the Council to raise a loan of £250 to erect some twenty-five mile; of telephone connecting with Awakino. —The clerk was instructed to take steps to raise loan aa requested. The reply received from the Commissioner of Crown Land with reference to loading on lands abutting the Pomerangi road was not what was wanted by the Council and instructions were given to the clerk to secure information as required. The Mokau Progressive Committee wrote a iking the Council to take steps to with reference to making preliminary arrangements in connection with the erection of a bridge over the Mokau river.—On the motion of Crs Leech and Pattisonri it was resolved that the Mokau Committee be notified that consideration of the question be deferred pending full information regarding cost of the work, and liability to adjoining local bodies to contribute and that the onus of procuring this information be left with the Mokau Progressive Committee. By the unsnimoua resolution of the Council. Cr Patterson amended the resolution carried on August 12th, 1913, as follows:—"That the Waipawa and Kiritehere-Mangakakopu loans be for forming and metalling only instead of for widening, culverting. forming and metalling as provided in resolution of August 12tb, 1913." The application from Mr Howartb, solicitor for the Marokopa Milling Company, asking that the Council take over the roads in township of Marokopa and Extension No. 1, so aa titles could be issued to pur-chasers.--Crs Boddy and Old moved that the matter be left in the hands of the chairman and clerk to interview Mr Howartb, and Cr Patterson was instructed to report to the Council next meeting as to the position of affairs at Marokopa. A petition v?as presented by Cr Boddy from settlers on the upper Awakino Valley road, askme the Council to assist the settlers in their endeavour to induce the Department in having four bridges constructed on the road. Until such bridges are constructed the present road is useless.—Crs Boddy and Old moved that the Council request the Department to carry cut the work as an urgent necessary *»?ork —Carried. ' A similar petition was presented by Cr Leech asking assistance from Council to urge the Minister of Public Works to grant £l5O to clear -slips on the Manganui road. —The Council decided to urge the Minister to grant the sum required. Several applications were received from different parts of the province for the vacant clerkship, and after careful consideration it was resolve to on the motion of Crs Boddy and Old that the application of Mr G. Brown, of Pio Pio, bts considered favourable and he be apppointed clerk at the salary of £BS per annum.—Carried. Several motions wore carried bearing on the raising of loans over special rating areas, and the chairman was empowered to visit Te Kuiti to confer with the chairman of the Waitomo County Council on various matters, and with the clerk arrange for the necessary documents to be prepared and signed so as to have as little delay as poasihle in the procuring of the special loan money.
