A tragedy is reported from Ballina, John Rankin, returning home from a meeting, discovered hie house locked. Forcing an entrance, he found hin wife in bed and a thirteen months' old child on the floor, both with their throats cut. The dead child had also apparently been struck on the head with a hammer'lying near.
