At the monthly meeting of the directors of the Ohura Co-operative Dairy Company, a petition was recaived from shareholders representing: on fourth of the issued shares, requesting the directors to call an extraordinary general meeting of the shareholders of the company to consider the advisability of winding up the company. The directors decided to call a meeting for October Ist, to consider the proposal. A large number of settlers met in the Ohura hall on the evening of 20th inst. to consider the proposal to purchase 50 acres to be used for a racecourse. Mr Risk occupied the chair, and explained that the committee had met to consider the offer of Mr Ellis to lease 50 acres, and had come to the conclusion that the terms were unsuitable for their purpose. After some discussion the action of the committee was unanimously confirmed. It was decided to examine an area at Tatu ard Matiere, and if either were deemed suitable to call a further meeting to consider securing the one selected.
The county engineer ir busy arranging to burn papa at the 11 mile and Mahoiahoa on the Ohura road between the Heao bridge, and the Paparata saddle. There is a considerable distance of the main road not widened, and this is considered by the cduncil as a most urgent work. The engineer has instructions to proceed wjth the survey and submit plans as soon as possible so as to enable the through mail Bervice from Stratford, to start this summer. Mr T. Moore is building special coaches for this service. A conference of representaives of the local bodies interests] is to be held at Whangamomona and Cr Currie, of Tatu, is representing the Ohura County Council.

Hr would communicate the same to the House when he received it. Mr Davey said that only six cars had been converted in fifteen months since the city authorities made the agreement with the Government. Were the Government waiting till some more people were killed? Over a hundred had been killed in Christchurch and Wellington, and still the Government say they are waiting for experts to report on the matter. Many conductors had been swept from footboards and the cases had never been reported. The Hon. Mr Fraser B«id he was a anxious as Mr Davey to end the existing state of affairs. He would bring down a Bill covering the whole subject. So far as he knew the cars were being converted according to agreement. The Land and Income Tax Bill was read a third time.
