LABOURITES READY TO SHOOT. IF SOLDIERS HAD FIRED. Johannesburg, Monday. A sensation has been caused by Mr Poutsma Btating that after the rioting in Johannesburg on July sth peace was concluded at the point of the revolver. General Smuta emphatically denied Mr Poutsma's statement. Mr Bain, secretary of the Labour Federation, now states that when tbe settlement was signed the Ministers and delegates went on to the balcony of the Carlton Hotel. The soldier* then had their rifles levelled on the crowd, and if a shot had been fired General Botha, General Smuts and Colonel Trutter, Union Chief of Police, would not hava lived a minute.
