AWAKINO COUNTY COUNCIL.

— The ordinax'y monthly meeting of the Awakino County Council wbb held on Saturday last at Waitanguru. There were present—Crs Leech (chairman), Kelly, Thorns, and Old. Awakino Valley Road. —A. H. Calvert wrote with respect to the Awakino Valley road, requesting the Council to have the amount of this year'B Government grant spent in metalling and improving the lower end of the road instead of pushing further ahead with the formation at the northern end.

Roading Native Lands. —Mr C. K. Wilson, member for the district, wrote acknowledging receipt of the Council's resolution concerning the necessity of making proper provision for the loading of native lands, and stating that provision will be made in the new Native Land Bill.

Special Loans. —Thu Valuation Department forwarded soecial rolls in connecting with the Pukekawa and Kiritehere-Mangakakopu special rating areas.

Expenditure of Thirds. —The District Road Engineer wrote enclosing a list of thirds in the hands of the department for expenditure amounting to £775 13s lOd, and suggesting the council have all thirdß accruing after September 30th scheduled for expenditure by the Council. - On the motion of the chairman and Cr Kelly it wbb resolved that the matter be held over till next meeting, and in the meantime the chairman and clerk go into the whole question of the County'B position and liability regarding roads under the control of the Roads Department, and that the clerk write to the Receiver of Landß Revenue, Auckland, asking him to keep in hand all thirds accruing after September 30th, pending proposals by the Council, to he considered at the meeting of October llth.

Manganui-Waikawau Telephone.— It was resolved that the Council take the necessary steps to raise a loan of £250 to erect a telephone line bb petition of the settlers interested. Suggested Conference. A letter was received from the clerk of thn Waitomo County Coancil suggesting that the chairman ar.d any members of the Council Bhould confer with the chairman of the Waitomo County Council. —Left in the hands of this chairman and clerk.
