GOVERNMENT CAUCUS.
A Government caucus was held on Saturday morning, all the members of the party being present or accounted for.
Three important proposals were considered: the new Land Bill, the demand for reduction of the threefifths licensing majority, and the referendum on the Bible-in-Schools question.
The official report of the caucus is that the Land Bill wa* received with high satisfaction, and it will be acclaimed both by the House and the country when produced next week, as being one of the finest Land Bills brought down. The licensing question was freely discussed, but the result, if any, is not announced. Concerning the referendum on the Bible-in-Schools question, members expressed themselves in thorough accord with Ministerial replies to deputations agreeing that the time is inopportune for legislation.
£ It was also decided by the caucus that the Government's programme should be completed this session, even at the expense of exceeding the usual time limit.
g|Apart from the official declaration, it is freely stated, regarding the licensing question, that the Government will not ask supporters to deviate from any platform pledge?.
