were read : C. K. Wilson, Esq., "You will remember introducing to me Mr R. Bcddy of Te Kuiti. who urged the extension of the Mangakokopu road between Te Kuiti and Marokopa. I may say that I brought this matter under the notice of the Hon. the Minister of Public Works, and he advises me that the matter will have his careful consideration when the Public Works Estimates are being compiled this session. I shall be glad if you will convey this information to Mr Boddy.—W. F. Massey." "E. P. Hally, Esq., Moeatoa, Te Kuiti. —I am in receipt of your letter of the 15th inst. You do not state whether provision was made in last year's Estimates for the road particularly referred to; if there was no such provision it is impossible for me to authorise the expenditure of money upon it. I quite realise how depressing it is for settlers to have no reasonable access to their farms, but there is so much to do in that way and very little money available therefore as you will understand when I tell you that I have expended in twelve months over £IOO,OOO in the Taumarunui electorate on roads and bridges alone, and yet the necessary works are not nearly completed. From this you will form some idea of the magnitude of the task imposed upon whoever hold my present position. You should get the local body to apply at once to this department for assistance towards making your road, for unless money appears onthe Estimates I am helpless. I will certainly have a report made into your particular case, and try if I can do something for you this year.—W. Fraser "
