EMPRESS PICTURES. The change programme at the Empress Theatre screened this evening, Monday and Tuesday, is one of excellent merit, the star picture being entitled "The Broken Ways," which is supported by a splendid series of comic, dramatic, educational and scenic pictures, also an interesting film"entitled "Britain's Hopes." ST. LUKE'S WINTER SOCIALS. A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The fourth of a series of winter socials in connection with s t. Luke's Church was held on Wednesday evening last. Progressive euchre and dancing were indulged in, and about thirty couples were prjsent. Excellent music was supplied by Misses Brown and Ilennie, and Messrs Hitchcock, Petersen and Christian. Mr Samuels creditably carried out the duties of M.C. Great credit is due to the ladies' committee and the hon. sec., Miss Downes, for the success of the gathering. Though not quite so well attended'as its predecessors the function was a great success both finnciaih and socially. GRAND TOPULAR CONCERT. WEDNESDAY EVENING'S PROGRAMME.
