CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A meeting of the Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce was held in the Municipal Chambers last night. The president, Mr Mostyn Jones, occupied the chair, and there was a fair attend ance.

Business Holidays.—A list of holidays agreed upon by the Retailers' Committee" was ; submitted and it was resolved that they be forwarded to the Mayor with a view to having them proclaimed public holidays. Subscription Nuisance.—The matter of subscription lists in aid of various objects which are frequently circulated among business people with the object of obtaining contributions was discussed. The necessity for combination among the retailers to resist the importunities of the casual subscription collector was pointed out, and it was resolved to leave the matter to the Retailers' Committee.

The matter of offering a prize for the best essay on the advantages of doing business at Te Kuiti was brought forward by Mr A. E. Robinson. It was decided to appoint a sub-commitee, consisting of the president, Messrs M. J. Jones, Robinson, Darrow, Allison, Lineham and Sutton, to arrange detai'i3 and suggest headings.

The president introduced tbe subject of main roads, but it was decided to defer consideration of the subject until a future meeting.
