THE EPIDEMIC.
♦ — - OUTBREAK STILL SPREADING. CASES AT OTOROHANGA. The epidemic which gave signs of diminishing last week has again become active in various localities and several fresh case i of Europeans are reported. As far as the King Country is concerned the hope that the outbreak would be confined to the cases already reported wbb shattered by the news of a European case at Te Mapara. This wbb followed on Monday by the information that a Maori family at Otorohanga had developed the disease. Every precaution has been taken by Dr Leeper to isolate the cases and contacts, and Dr Gunn has pronounced the disease to be small pox. Dr Valintine, who has been visiting Auckland and Waikato states thßt a feature of the disease appears to be that it increases in severity in the southern localities. The cases at North Auckland are of a much milder nature than those in Waikato, and the latter arc undoubtedly small pox.
