COMMERCIAL.
Newton King reports:—
At my Stony River yards on Wednesday2, 3d inst., there was a full yarding of all classes with spirited bidding throughout. Some very fine lines of yearling cattle were yarded, the pick of these being a pen of 31 well-grown Shorthorn yearling steers entered by Mr M. Fleming, of Pungarehu. This line was much admired and generally admitted to be the finest lot of this class yarded in Taranaki for some time. Excellent competition was obtained for these and also for a pen of Shorthorn yearling heifers on account of the same vendor, the steers selling at £2 17s, and heifers at £2 17s 6a\ Other prices realised were — Yearling heifers £2 to £2 10s and £3 5s for coloured heifers, yearling steers £2 2s 6d and £2 3, mixed yearlings £2 19f! 6d, bad coloured yearling 20s, 20 month to 2 year steers £3 18s. empty 20 manths heifers £3 15s, store cows £2 6s to £4 2s, forward and fat cows £4 8s 6d to £7 9s, good dairy cows £6 10s to £S 15s, springing Jersey heii'era £6 17s 6d, bullß £4 15s to £6 2s 6d. The cows sold on account of Mr Gordon Elliottt were a very poor line small second calvers low in condition and backward sold at from £3 5s to £6.
On Thursday ; 24th inst., at Oakura, for Mr E. De Castro's clearing sale, there was a good attendance. The cows with a few exceptions W6re very aged, but sold well. Second and third calvers sold at from £6 10a to £8 15s, aged cows £2 15s to £5 ss, backward two year Shorthorn heifers £4 2a 6d to £6 2s 6d, Shorthorn bulls £3 5s to £5 ss, heifers calves £6 6s to £7, three year colfc £26, seven year gelding £27, thirteen year roan mare *ls 10s, mixed yearlings 355, sundries at usual prices.
