A pleasant social Junction was held at Mr J. B. Young's oflice, Te Kuiti. on Monday evening, the occasion being a presentation to Mr Harold Vause in commemoration cf iiis birthday. Congratuatory speeches were made by a number present and the presentation, which was in iho shape of silver ware, was made by Mr Young on behalf of the recipient's friends. The Te Kuiti school, which was closed down for a month, was reopened on Monday last. The school was originally closed for three weeks in order to allow the teachers te attend the physical culture classes at Hamilton, and in consequence of the small pox epidemic a further week's holiday was deemed advisable. The school iB to be closed to Maori children for another fortnight.
The Kings' Prize at the' Bisley ri:ie meeting provided an exciting rinish, being won by Private Hawkins, of Canada, with a score of Sod, the runner-up being Sergeant Penny who scored 329. The Australian shootists were well up, nine of them getting on the prize list.
Vaccination has had a toniewhat serious effect on a number of persons who recently submitted to the operation, but the majority aro well over their trouble now.
