RATEPAYER'S AND CITIZENS' ASSOCIATION.
At a meeting of the Te Kuiti Ratepayers' and Citizens' Association, held in tae borough hall on Monday evening, it was decided to abandon the tree planting function for a reason and to consider the. construction of garden plots instead. This course was reluctantly adopted mainly owing to the feelings of uneasiness manifested by the general public on account of the epidemic, it being felt that it would be impossible to hold any successful gathering meantime. The question of rating on unimproved value was dealt with and a petition to the borough council is being prepared requesting a poll to be taken on he question. Thia petition may be signed by ratepayers only, at the Chronicle ollice, Railway refreshment rooms, and on application to any of the executive. The question is one which has already aroused a considerable amount of public interest, and it is hoped an opportunity will be forthcoming a little later on to fully discuss the matter in public. Those who have attended the last few council meetings spoke very heartily of both the interest aroused and the educative influence experienced by attendance at those meetings. If the general public only realised it they could spend many an interesting and profitable evening listening to our City Fathers. Verbum aapienti sat.
