PRESBYTERIAN SESSION AND MANAGERS' COURT.
A meeting of the Presbyterian Church Session was held at Waiteti on Tuesday evening, when a report ■from the minister dealing with various forward movements in connection with the congregation and district, was received and adopted. The Social Service report showed that the minister had made considerable efforts relieve many cases of hardship among settlers and others in the district. In respite to appeals friends from Otahuhu. Cambridge, Hamilton, Pultekohe. Paterangi, Hainr.i, Te Awamutu and Te Kuiti. had forwarded a very large amount of clothing, which had been duly forwarded to those in need. In Hamilton an effort had been made in response to another appeal and about £2O had been raised to assist the widow and family o:: a poor settler in this district. By means of this the secMon rent had been paid, anUhfi path of sorrow made mors easy. Others, friends outside this district, had also forwarded donations amounting to nearly another £2O, which also had been distributed to those needing such assistance. Very hearty thanks is due to all those who j have rendered help in this good work. The second Sunday in September was fixed as the date for the next Communion. It was decided t) forward a letter expressing appreciation of the work and address by Mr Fraser Barton, 8.A., who lately visited the charge in the interests of the Youns- People's Bible Class movement. A plan of services whereby with the asssitance of the Elders a monthly service could be sustained at the following country places was adopted:—Rangitoto No. 1, Lower Waitomo, Hangatiki. Reigate. Waiteti. to commence next Sunday. The session adjourned to meet in a month from date. The Managers' Committee also held a meeting in the Vestry on Thursday at 7.30 p.m. There was a good attendance, with Rev A. Armstrong, Moderator, in the chair. The following items of interest to the congregation were brought forward and dealt with.
A letter re raising of mort gage was received irom the Church Committee and referred to the Finance Committee to deal with. A committee consisting of Messrs Arthur. Kelso, Lumsden, and ,Moderator was formed to consider the matter of the envelope system, with power to finally decide which system should continue, and to call a meeting of church ladies to form a committee to co-operate with the managers' in this matter.
It Was decided to take retiri ig offerings at both service 3 on Sunday, August 3rd on behalf of Maori Missions, and to forward letters of encouragement to Mr A. Pattiscn and the special choir organise, the Ladiei' Guild, and the Girls' Guild for the efforts they are undertaking on behalf of the church, and also to Mr W. Sarnest for having plouged and sown the section at the back of the manse. A committee was also appointed to deal with the installation of the electric light, and the offer of Mr James to attend to certain necessary repairs, received with thanks.
