A VALEDICTORY AND APPEAL.

The Editor. Sir,—l again appeal to the readers of your paper for help in carrying on the philanthropic work which has engaged my attention for the past seventeen years. During that time I have made many similar appeals. Sometimes the needs have been great and urgent, and at other times IeBB so, but by the goodness of God and the generosity of our many friends they have always been met and I have been the proxv in carrying succour counsel and hope' to many who were feeling the stress and pressure of life. Some of my work has been amongst those who endure permanent and grinding poverty and loneliness; at other times the trouble has been of a temporary sort and a little help and a kind Word have enabled the troubled one io regain a footing on the ladder of life. I have made this review as the time is approaching when I must relinqush my official position. 1 hope to give place to a younger sister to be appointed by the mission and who will I trust receive the same confidence and generou3 support as have been granted to me. My work has brought me into touch with clergymen, magistrates, police officers, doctors, nurses, lawyers, journalists, officials, and a proportion of the public, the kindness, generosity, and patience of whom I now acknowledge with grateful thanks. For many reasons I am sorry to detach myself from official connection with the work, but advancing year? and the strain ot seventeen years' contact with other people's sorrows makes it necessary, and the change will take effect on August 31st. Meanwhile, the work must continue, and with confidence I make my last appeal for the money needed in connection with it. As it is winter time, when the needs are always greater. I ask for a prompt and generous response. Will those who can contribute please remit to th* treasurer of our Social Funds, Mr H. E. Pacey. care the New Zealand Dairy Association, Wellesley street, Auckland, or to SISTER KENNETH, Auckland Methodist Mission, with which is incorporated the Helping Hand Mission. Rose road, Grey Lynn, July 15th 1913.
