OTOROHANGA.
Own Correspondent. The Otorohanga branch of the Manchester Unity, Oddfellows, held a very successful concert and dance on Tuesday last. The proceeds are to be devoted towards building a lodge. The programme was a good one, and was listaned to by a highly appreciative audience It was as follows:—Overture, Mr and Mrs Carter, clarionet and piano; song, "Bonnie Mary of Argyle." Mr Harvey, encored; song, "My Old Shako," Mr A. Price, encore "Marjorie"; recitation, "Riding the Rebel," Mr Packer; "song, "Two Eyes of Grey," Mr Henderson; song, "The Druids Altar," Miss L. Johnson; recitation, "The Tea Party," Mr W. Harvey: song, "Queen of the Earth," Mr C. Johnson; song, "Garden of Rose 5 ?," Mr H. Hederso'n. After the musical part of the programme was completed some local amateurs staged "Done on Both Sides." This was very funny, and the local "gaga" brought down the house. Mr Elliott ably took the part of Mr Wiffles, a superannuated exciseman; Mr Miller made a dashing Mr Brownjohn, a fortune-hunter; Mr Bell, as Cousin Phibbs, a homely but wealthy veterinary surgeon, did the part full justice; Mrs Wiffles, a match-making mamma, was played by Mrs Whyte; while Mrs Stewart made a charming Lydia, Wiffles' amiable daughter. The fun is cuased by the Wiffles posing as affluent people, to catch Mr Brownjohn. who is supposed to be very wealthy. Cousii. Phibbs exposes the ploV, but sets Brownjohn up in order that he may marry Lydia With whom he genuinely falls in love, thus giving the farce the popular "happy ending." Mm Elliott made a very efficient prompter, and Miss Jobnsnn fulfilled the duties of accompanist in her usual able manner.
