OHURA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Ohura County Council was held in the County Chambers, Ohura, en July 16th. Present—Crs Sandison (chairman), Hayward, Risk, Lyon, Sowry, Loveday and Goldfinch. The Receiver of Land Revenue wrote that the sum of £248 had been placed to the credit of the council. Mr Wilson, 11.P., wrote acknowledging receipt of motion with respect to the reading cf native land, and the required report on the sanitary condition of the local schools, and urging the council to push on any loan proposals far the county. Sh*v Ground. The secretary of the A and P. Association wrote urging that the Commissioner of Crown Land be communicated with so as to bavet'ie show ground boundaries defined. T *^^Ucn. —The revised roll of the Ohura County was received and laid on the table. Wang3nui River Bridge.—The secretary of the Wanganui East Ratepayers' Association wrote asking the assistance of the ;:council in opposing the closing cf the Wanganui bridge turn-table, urging the benefit to the settlers on the upper Wanganui the maintaining of the river open for boat traffic. —Resolved that no action be taken. Hospital.—The secretary of the Taumarunui Chamber of Commerce wrote in reference to the answer of tag* Minister for Public Health, in repiy to trie request of a grant of £SOO for hospital building, and asking a delegate be sent to arrange an answer.—The date of the meeting being passed no action was taken. Level Raliway CruS3ing.—lt was decided to support the action of the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce in urging the Premier to take steps to reduce the casualties by minimising the danger. County Conference.-*-The chairman was appointed to represent the council at the annual conference. Scenery Reserves. —The chairman had instructed the clerk to ascertain from the Commissioner of Crown Lands as to the control of the various river reserves. —The following reply was received: "In reply to your letter of the 2nd inst., I have to inform you that the scenic reserves, and reserves along the banks of rivers such as those referred to by you a-*e not under the control of the council. The Scenic Preservation Board controls the scenic reserves, and this department will take action against persons destroying bush on the river bank reserves." Ohura Township Extension No. I. Mr W. K. Williams waited on the council in connection with transferring this extension to the County rioancil, and explained the position. — On the motion of Cr Loveday, seconded by Cr Goldfinch, it was decided to accept the dedication of Tawa street, Matai street, Hinau street, Punga street and Ohura street. Main Road. —Cr. Lyon moved and Cr Risk, seconded that the council protest against the delay in sanctioning ths expenditure of the main road grant, and ask that the money be' mada available at once, and also protest against the cutting up of the main road by the Public Works traffic Without any proviison for repairs. Railway Accommodation at Okahukara. —Cr Lyon moved that the member for the district be asked to point out to the Minister ot Railways the extreme desirability of providing a staionnnster, goods shed, and stock loading facilities at Okahukara. The necessity of this had been urged upon the during his visit to the Ohura, so that settlers could take advantage of this road when open for traffic.

Loans.—Cr3 Risk and Loveday required the preliminary steps to be taken in regard to loan 3 in their respective ridings. Mails to Stratford and Whangamomona. —Cr Currie moved that the Postal Department be requested to call tenders for a 'mail service between Obura and Whangamomona to connect with the Stratford service. Telephones.—Cr Currie moved that the Telegraph Department be urged to connect Tckirima with Aukopae.—The clerk was instructed to ascertain the cost of erecting telephone lines so as to enable settlers to take advantage of the system. Draftsman.—Mr Whysall, of Greymouth, was appointed draftsman for the council.
