A very pleasant evening was spent in Buchanan's rooms, Auckland, on Friday, May 30th, when Mrs Melling I gave an "At Home" in honour of her 'daughter's approaching marriage and closing postal career. Many friends availed themselves of the invitation, some coming from Waikato .and Te Kuiti, where Miss Melling was a very popular postmistress for some time. A dainty supper wai provided. Music, vocal items and cards contributed to a pleasant evening. Mr Aitken, felicitous speech, wished Miss Melius? every happiness and prosperity in her future life and presented her with a handsome marble clock, inscribed on silver plate, "Presented to L. H. Melling by the staff of (he Auckland Post Office on the occasion of her marriage." Mr Waring, an old friend, responded oh behalf of Miss Melling.
