WINS FOR OTOROHANGA, TE KUITI, AND MANGAPEHI. The games under the auspices of the Maniapoto Rugby Union were continued on Saturday. Te Kuiti met Waimiha' at Te Kuiti and scored a win by 24 points to nil. Nehenehenui journeyed to Otorohanga and were defeated by 8 points to 3, while Mangapehi played Ongarue on the latter'a ground and registered a victory by 9 points to nil. TE KUITI 24, WAIMIHA 0. Waimiha set the leather in motion, and good following up had Te Kuiti in difficulties. Cole saved the situation by snapping up the ball and reaching the touch line. Te Kuiti forwards made a short rush, but Waimiha broke through and Sturmey with a dash looked dangerous. He short-punted but Boles, who had raced behind, saved by forcing. The subsequent play was chiefly confined to the forwards, neither side being able to open up the game. The Waimiha forwads held their own very well for a time, and returned the Te Kutii rushes in good style. Eventually an opening was made by D. Gray. Picking up the ball in the loose the burly lock made a dash and transferred the ball to Boles, who ran in and scored behind the post?. Healey converted —s—o. Scrambling play ensued from the kick-off, and Te Kuiti gradually worked the leather to their opponents' territory, where D. Gray had a shot a goal from at penalty kick. The local backs then began to throw the ball about, but many pro raising movements were spoiled by bad passing and handling. Rothwell fed his backs in good style, but at times his passes were somewhat wild. A good passing bout, in which Rothwell, Boles. Matthew and McKellar took part, resulted in tbe leather being sent into touch-in-goal. Immediately afterwards Hunt made a good opening and sent the ball to Matthew. The latter passed to Cole, who dashed over near the posts and scored the second try. Healey again converted. 10—0. In the second spell there was some quick try-geting. The Te Kuiti backs lost no opportunity of flinging the ball about, and in this style of play they had their opponents outclassed. The first try came from a line-out in which Healey secured the ball and passed to Boles, who made ground and transferred to Matthew. Cole was the last to receive the leather, and bustled over tbe line. 13—0 Waimiha broke away from the drop out and made matters" willing for a while, but a free kick to the black and whites had Waimiha in trouble. After some tight play Sturmey forced. A passing run, in which Rothwell, Boles, and Matthew took part, again placed Waimiha in difficulties, and Hunt in a scambling rush dashed over and scored. Boles failed to add to the score. 16 —0. From the drop out Boles took the leather and started a passing run, in which Rothwell, Healey, and Matthew took part, the latter cutting in cleverly and scoring. No goal resulted from the kick. 19—0. Just on time Delaney bustled over the line, but was brought back. He was not to be denied, however, as immediately afterwards he dashed over and scored an unmistakeable try. Healey placed a good goal, making the scores 24—0. The whistle sounded shortly aftterward3. Mr B. W. Hayson was referee.
