LECTURE AT HANGATIKI.
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. On Thursday night, 19th inst., the | schoolroom at Hangatiki was filled with a large and appreciative audience, Who listened with interest to Mr J. J. Molloy, the teacher, as he described the scenes that flashed with rapid succession on the screen. The proceedings opened with a two-part song by the children, "The Sports of Childhood." Mr Molloy then addressed those present on the raison d'etre of the entertainment. During the course of thelecture Mr Molloy led his hearers from point to point over a series of varied and most interesting scenes, depicting glacier and alpine scenery in Canada, street scenes from London, rural life in Ireland and Scotland, seal hunting in Arctic regions, and topical scenes fromHEgypt, India, Burmah, China, and Japan, all of which were described and enlarged upon at some length. The second part opened with a song by the pupils, "Where the Jam-pots Grow,"|aud was followed by a number of scenes photographed by the lecturer in various parts or New Zealand. It included a number of local views, and showed the school children at their gimes, working in the school garden, or swimming in the river. This caused endless amusement to the young people, who were enraDtured at the sight of their own familiar faces depicted before them, often greatly enlarged. Aftter the lecture a vote of thanks to Mr Molloy was proposed by Mr A. S. Board for the interest the teacher took in the welfare of the children, as evidenced by this lecture. He commented on the good conuduct of the pupils, and on the pleasure derived from listening to the singing. He hoped also that, as a start had been made, Mr Mollloy would see his way to do a little more in this direction, and thought that a monthly lecture of the same sort would prove a success. The proceedings terminated with the singing of the two-part song, "Dip the Oar," followed by tha round, "Good-night."
