PIO PIO.

Own Correspondent. Last Friday evening a very hearty "send-off" was given to Mr and Mrs Wallace in the Pio Pio hall by the residents. The hail, although fairly commodious, was packed, all present being there for the purpose of showing their goodwill to the departing couple, both of whom had been in the employ of Green and Colebrook for some consisderble time. Mr Wallace was leaving Pio Pio to take up the management of the store at Waitomo. Mr D. Hattaway presided, and expressed the pleasure it gave him to voice the kindly feelings expressed by all towards the guests of the evening Mr Wallace would be greatly missed by both the cricket and football players and both clubs wished him prosperity and all happiness, It gave the speaker great pleasure, as evidence, of the goodwill of Pio Pio and surroundings, to present Mr and Mrs Wallace with a silver tea and coffee service. Mr Wallace responded in a few well-chosen remarks. During the evening a short programme of musical items, etc., was given. Mr Arthur Asplin played the overture. Mr Meares in good style, sang "Anchored"; Miss Butcher rendered the recitation "The Inventor's Wife" in an effective manner; Mr Buckingham sang "The Deahless Army," and to the delight of all gave a comic recitation; Mrs Hob son sang "Tha Valley by the Sea"; Mr H. Smith, "The Champion of the King"; and Mr J. Anthony in his ever-popular style "Balaclava." Mrs H. Smith played the accompaniments. A sumptuous supper was partaken jby ' all, and then dancing began, I which was kept up until well into morning. Mr Arthur Asplin supplying the music.
