J Ballarat asks for a recount. There are many complaints, and nossibly trouble regarding the conditions of tho poll recorded in several other electorates. Mr Joseph Cook, addressing the Women's Liberal League, eaid no matter how Labour twisted (bo figures about they had a minority of one.s| Whatever happened the power of Labour was scathed. There would bo no stable footing in Australia till the Liberals had clean, stand-up fight with Labour, with every interest at stake. When that would come ho did not pretend to know, but advised them to keep their powder dry. The whole electoral machinery would need overhauling for next election, no an to provide a fair field and no favour.
