Sir Arthur Guinness, Speaker of the House of Representatives, died yesterday at Greyniouth at 1 p."l- - news caused a great shock. Ho had been about, his usual dution on Saturday, and cleared the mail at the post office the *samo night. Ho complained of being unwell on Sunday, and had a severe headache. Ho took a bad turn yesterday and became unconscious, and with one brief interval remained so till his death. Deceived had been working hard in forming branches of tho Deep Seas Harbour League. On Thursday morning he went out in the fug in connection with the visit of the battleship. Heavy rain foil, and Sir Arthur Guinness was thoroughly drenched. It in thought by many this may have brought on his illness. Several eulogistic telegrams havo been received expressing condolence at the death of deceased. ITho Premier expressed himself as shocked at the occurrence. He paid a tribute to the firm, tactful, and considerate manner tho late Speaker dealt with the business of (,ho House, and said deceased had won the all action o£ tho House in a degree very seldom experienced. His death would be a loas not only to his electorate, but to Parliament and to the Dominion.
