MANIAPOTO RUGBY|;UNION. 1 Matches under the jurisdiction of thejfabove union were continued on Saturday, when Otorohanga played a match on the latter's ground and defeated them by 18 points to 6. Nehinehi played a drawn game with Manthe sawmilling centre, both teams scoring 11 points. At Te Kuiti the home team easily defeated Ongarue by 28 points to nil. TE KUITI 28 v. ONGARUE 0. This match requires but little description, or, perhaps, to be more correct, baffles description, because the home team held their own from start to finish, and their goal line was never seriously threatened. To follow the tactics of the winning side would be impossible, as more often than not, they were certainly not of the orthodox order, and pitted against a team with a system of attack, the chances are they would go under. By the above remarks it is not wished to'detract from the intention. The ball was thrown about in a manner to satisfy the appetite of the keenest lover of an open game, but to little purpose, and as aforesaid opposed to a team with a decent intercepting fiveeighth, it would be a shame to say what might happen. Time after time Rothwell (half-back for Te Kuiti) secured from the scrum and duly fed his backs, and although a number of them handled the leather very little real advantage was made of the opportunity. With the material Te Kuiti put in the field there is the making of a real good team, both fore and aft, and the sooner a plan of attack and defence is inaugurated the better it will be for the players concerned. Tries for Te Kuiti were scored by B. Boles, Hunt, Rothwell, Matthews, Delaney, Healey (2), and Cole, two of which were converted by B. Bolton. Mr Power refereed.
