COMMONWEALTH ELECTIONS.

LIBERALS IN THE LEAD. LABOUR LEADS FOR SENATE. Sydney, Monday* Large crowds are watching tho posting of returns in connection with tho Federal elections, which continue to improve tho Liberal position. On the present showing it looks as if Labour is in for defeat. On tho last figures, counting safe and probablew ins, the Liberals altogther look like gaining 15 seats against 6 gained by Labour. If this forecast prove correct, the new House of Representatives will consist of 39 Liberals and ;!<> Labour members. For tho Senate the Labour candidates are loading in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and West- Australia; while in New South Wales and Tasmania the Liberals are ahead. THE POSITION UNALTERED. Received 3rd at 10.2. r > p.m. Sydney. Tuesday. Today's progressive returns have not affected tho position of tho parties, though nbsentoo votes have yet to be counted in almost every electorate. It is not regardod likoly that, thono will no more than vary to more or lees considerable extent individual majorities already established. The Senate figurns also tend to em • phasise tho position already notified. The referenda returns, though showing a slight affirmative majority, are too representative yet, for any deductions to be made.
