_____ MINISTERIAL PROMISE FOLLOWED UP. The following wires, which have passed bewteen Mr G. Elliott, Pio Pio, and the Prime Minister relative to a promise made by Mr Massey to a deputation consisting of Messrs Collins and Petrie to grant £IOO for the main coach road between Pio Pio and Aria, illustrates the necessity of not losing sight of a definite promise once made. The road cutting up badly. If money not immediately expended the road will be impassable this winter. 1 The Public Works Department at Te Kuiti know nothing of the matter. —G. ELLIOTT. In reply to your telegram of yesterday re application of Collins and Petrie for expenditure of £IOO Pio Pio -Aria inairi road, the matter is before the Minister of Public Works. Replying further to your telegram of yesterday,find that the amount of £SO £ for £ subsidy was authorised on the sth inst. for expendiuure by Waitomo County in accordance with my promise to deputation. Advise you see Waitomo County Council. W. MASSEY. Pio Pio, May 28th, 1913. Premier, Wellington. In reply to your telegram of yesterday, the £SO mentioned is for another road altogether, namely the Paru road, represented by Messrs Riddle and Smyth. Our request in connection with £IOO straight-out grant promised by you to Collins and Petrie deputation for immediate expenditure on Pio Pio-Aria main coach road. —G. ELLIOTT. With reference to request made to me at Aria, the Minister of Public Works has now authorised expenditure of £240 for metalling bad portion of road between Aria and Pio Pio.
