King Country Chronicle Saturday, May 17th, 1913. PUBLIC RECREATION GROUND.

It is to be hoped the meeting convene] by the Ratepayers' and Citizens' Association for Monday evening next will attract a thoroughly representative attendance The object of the meeting is to discuss the matter of a recreation ground for tlie town, and the full and complete discussion of the subject is altogether in the interests of the community at large. An outstanding drawback in connection with tbe establishment of the town was the failure to provide reserves of any sort for public purposes, and the residents are confronted with the responsibility of acquiring sufficient areas for all public purposes. It is widely recognised that public recreation grounds are necessary to the health and well being of any community, and as the centre becomes more populous this necessity will become more acutely felt. There is no doubt the small and insignificant area which does duty as a domain at present is totally inadequate for the purposes for which a domain ia commonly utilised, and apart altogether from the question of disposal of the area in question there is pressing necessity for a suitable ground. The public should be fairly well acquainted with the various proposals which have been advanced in connection with the matter, and it is altogether fitting that an opportunity should be afforded of getting an exprsesion of public opinion on the subject. The association is to be commended for its timely action, and it is to be hoped pubic will attend in' force to dicsusß a matter which is of importance to every individual in the community.
