HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CALBEGRAM. Wellington, Monday. The High Commissioner cables from London, under date May 3rd, as follows, quotations unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot: — Mutton.—The market is quiet with a tendency in favour of buyers. Canterbury 4§d, North Island 4Jd. Lamb.—The market is steady, and holders are firm. Small shipments are expected during the next two weeks. Canterbury 63-d, other than Canterbury 6gd.
Beef. —The market is weak and inactive. Supplies of American chilled beef are likely to increase. New Zealand hindquartres 3£d, fores 3Jd. Butter. —The market is weaker, arid the tendency n downward, except for choicest. Supplies are increasing. Choicest New Zealand 112s, Danish 117s, Argentine 103s, Australian 106s, Siberian 104 a. Cheese.—The market is steady, with very good demand for finest. New Zealand White 58s 6d, coloured 75s 6i. Hemp.—The market is quiet, but rather steadier, lower prices encouraging more business. New Zealand good fair £3l, fair £2S, for all positions; fair current Manila £33, forward shipments May to July £34. Wool.—The market is steady, prices are well maintained, and holders are firm.
