TE KUITI DEBATING SOCIETY.

PREDARATIONS FOR SEASON. The Te Kuiti Debating Society is to hold its first debate for the season on Friday evening next at 7.30 o'clock. It was originally intended to open the season on Thursday evening, but the Municipal Hall being unavailable for that evening, it waß decided to hold the first debate on Friday. Thereafter throughout the season the meeting of the society will be on Thursday evenings. The opening night will be devoted to impromptu debates, and a syllabus has been drawn up for the remainder of the season. It has been decided to carry on the society on the same lines as during last season, with a debate and a parliamentary sitting each alternate Thursday. Parliament will be opened m Thursday, May 15th, when the Government benches will be occupied by a Liberal Ministry led by Mr Howarth. The Labour party is still strong in numbers, and the leadership has been accepted by Mr J. B. Young. The Conservatives still maintain their party individuality, it having been found impossible to effect a coalition between the Conservative and Liberal interests.

The Government leader had some little difficulty in forming a Cabinet in consequence of the demands of aome of the old members of the party, but it is understood the following have accepted office, and will frame the first policy speech:—-A. F. Howarth, Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Native Affairs; H. A. Ellison, Minister for Lands; J. F. Walsh, Railways; J. Steel, Public Works; E. H. Hardy, PostmaßterGeneral; A. Julian, Labour; E. Martin, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice. Mr E. Inder has been appointed Senior Whip for the party. A Cabinet meeting is to be held at the office of the Prime Minister this evening at 5 o'clock.
