TWO DEATHS RESULT. Two shocking deaths occurred at Manunui this week as the result of a drinking bout. Frem the information available it seems two gallons of whisky had been procured from the Waikato, and a number of men started drinking, among them were the 1;wo deceased. It would appear that both were assisted to their beds on Tuesday night. One of them, Gantley, was dead when found on Wednesday morning, and the other Gillies, was in a serious condition. Medical aid was sought, but before Dr McKnight, who was called, arrived, about mid-day, Gillies had also ' Two or three others were suffering from the effects of drink, but not serisaid the two deceased drank father more heavily than the others. The police have secured a quantity of the whisky, which will probably be subjected to analysis. The tragedy caused a great seasation in the districtAt the inquest on Thursday th« medical evidence was to the effect that deceased met their death through respiratory and circulatory paralysis, due to alcoholic poisoning. The doctor would not give a certincate until the contents of the stomach were analysed. The liquor was brought irom Frankton to Pongapunga, near Manunui, where the men worked as bushmen. . Witnesses deposed that some dozen men drank the contents neat in mugs. The inquest waß adjourned until the analysis had been obtained.
