EMPRESS THEATRE. "Behind the Mask." - This is a fascinating love story pourtraving the efforts of'a'devoted fgirl to save her sister from the clutches of an unscrupulous adventurer. The leading parts are acted by 'famous artists and the play introduces artistic dancing and is set among delightful scenery. The Btory relates how Edgar Allen, spendthrift, after being practically engaged to Ellen Smith; transferred his love to the latter's si3ter because the sister was in possession of considerable wealth. Ellen schemed to open her sister's eyes. With that in view she makes enquiries as to Allen s real position, and finds that he is living far beyond his means, is anything but a true lover, and is in the habit of frequenting Maxim's dancing hall. Having a natural talent for dancing, Ellen enters on the stage and dances "Behind a Mask," fascinating her Bister' 3 lover. On the night of er sister's betrothal a young masked dancer appears and causes embarrass ment to Allen. Unmaskng she produces proof of his perfidy an sister is saved from a life of misery.

The whole performance stands out on its own f excellence, and columns could be filled applauding the entertainment.
