KAWHIA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of tho Kawhia County Council was held 011 April 12th, when the following were present-- Crs. Shaw (chairman), Norton, Po.rham, Reams, Davie:;, Pabhago and Noon an. The district engineer Public. Works Department, wrote enquiring if the council would undertake M>e expenditure ol' port ien of the grant for the Waitetuna-Aotea road. -Cr Norton reported that he and the engineer had arranged with the depart;;ient as to tho expenditure of lhi=i money. -The action of Cr Norton wan approved. The district engineer requested payment of the contribution promised by the council towards the cost of metalr ling William's hill en the PirongiaKawhia road. It was decided to forward a cheque for the amount. The Under-Secretary Public Works Department, wrote asking for tho coucil's reasons for its objection to tho withdrawal of tho grants for tho Lemon Point-Te. Mails a and Te Mai lea r<>ada. Unstated that the Minister was unlikely to vary Inn derision in this matter. It was resolved to request I lie members for the district to protest, against. It was decided to support the Awakino County Council in its objection to the erection of an oil punt as a moans of crossing tin! Mokau river. On the motion of Cr Noonan it Was resolved to invite the Minister of Public Works to visit the district on tho occasion of the opening of the Oparau ferry bridge, which is now Hearing; completion.
