THE AMOKURA CHARGES.

The Hon. H. D. Bell, Acting-Minis-ter for Marine, informed a reporter at Wellington that he had intended to make a statement on the subject of the Amokura inquiry at the time when ha received the report, but had now decided to hold over his statement until the departure iof the battleship New Zealand from Wellington. He would then hand a statement to the press for publication. The Minister added that he might say, in advance, that the charges of cruelty and of undue severity of punishment had been completely disproved.
