KING COUNTRY NEEDS.
WORK OF LOCAL BODIES
In responding to the toaat of "Local Bodies" on Thursday evening, Mr A. Scboles, chairman of the Waitomo County Council, in referring to the progress of the district, emphasised the need of roads in order to achieve progress. He referred to tire great amount of work which had been ac complished by the local bodies during the last few years, and pointed out that there was more work than ever ahead of them. He had every confidence in the future of the King Country, but the watchword of the local bodies for the next ten years must be I work and progress. In order to carry out the public work necessary for the development of the district a large expenditure was necessary, and much depended upon the ability to finance. The settlers everywhere were awakening to the necessity for good roads, and these facilities could only be provided up to the money available for the purpose. Major Luak, in supporting the remarks of the previous speaker, advocated self-reliance and urged the people to support the efforts of the local bodies in every respect. He expressed his opinion of the King Country in the fact that after a sojourn of over sixty years in the Dominion he had decided that the King Country was the best place he could choose in which to spend tho evening A Ills life.
