A very old grievance of local bodies was brought before the notics of the Hon. W. Fraser, Minister of Public Works, during his tour of the north. The chairman of the Rudney County Council advocated the building of ferro-concrete bridges in place of wooden structures, but stated that if the ratepayers were approached to raise the necessary extra money those who lived at any distance from the bridge would probably object He advocated the granting of power to the local body to raise the money without consulting the ratepayers. Th<* Minister expressed bis sympathy with the council, and stated he had advocated the change for years. He would do what he could to h-lp the local body in the di(T;_.J'y.
