COMMERCIAL.
Messrs Dalgety and Co , Ltd., report:— We held our autumn horse fair on March 28th ; when the advertised number of horses came forward. Bidding was dull throughout. We quote: Heavy draughts £2B to £34, medium £2O to £26 10s, aged £8 15s to £ll 10s, good hacks and harness horses £l2 10s to £2O, cobs £8 to £lO 10s, ponies £2 10s io £5, aged ponies and hacks 20s to £3, unbroken hack sorts £3 to £6 10s, unbroken ponies 10s to £2 10s, two-ton waggon £25, harness, etc , at market rates. We held our monthly sale in the Te Awamutu yards on March 29th, when we yarded 327 head of cattle. Owing to the heavy rains there was not a large atenlance; nevertheless we managed to dispose of most of the lines offered. We quote:—Fat cows £5 10s to £6 10s, empty cows £3 10s to £4 ss, old and poor cows 22s to £2 10s, eighteen months steers £3 13s, cows with calves £5 4s to £6 16s, two year heifers in calf £5 3s to £5 6s, eighteen month heifers in calf £3 3s to £4 ss, yearling steers £3, good calves 33s to 445, poor calves and bad colours lis to 28s, springing heifers £5 12s 6d to £6 12s 6d, weaner pigs 10s to 10s 6d. WESTFIELD FAT STOCK MARKET. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual weekly fat stock sale at, Westfield on April 2nd, as under: — Beef. —An average yarding. Extra prime ox beef was a shade firmer, other qualities sold at late rates. Extra prime ox beef made equal to 28b per 1001b., ordinary quality ox 25s to 275. cow and heifer beef 22? to 265, according to quality. Veal.— An average yarding, which sold at late rates. Heavy runners made up to £5 ss, choice heavy suckers M 5s to £3 2s, light Buckers 28s to 435, others 3s to 18s. Mutton.—A good yarding which sold at last week's rates. Choice quality heavy wethers made 19s to 21s 9d, medium weight wethers 17s 9d to 18s 9d, light 16s 17s. heavy ewes 16s to 18s, medium 14s to 15s 6d, light 12s 6d to 13s 6d. Lambs.—A small yarding, prices were Is to Is 6d dearer. Heavy prime woolly made 15s 6d to 17s 9d, medium weight and light 13s to 14s 9d, shorn lis to 12s 9d. Pork.—A large yarding. Prices were lower than last week. Heavy choppers made £3 12s to £4 3s, bacuners £2 lis to £2 16s, heavy porkers 35s to 435, light do. 19a to 25s 6d.
JOHNSON VILLE STOCK SALE. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonville sale as follows: —A good entry of both sheep and cattle came forward, and sold well at late rates. Prime heavy bullocks £lO 10s to £ll, prime bullocks £9 15s to £lO 7s 6d, good wethers 16s 9d to 17s Bd, prime ewes 15s Bd, medium ewes 14s to 14s 6d, plain ewes 13s 3d to 13s 6d, prime lambs 14s Id to Is lid. good lambs 13s to 13s 6d, medium lambs 12s to 12s 6d. The New Zeaalnd Loan and Mercantile Ag6ncy Co., Ltd., report:— At Westfield yards on Wednesday fat cattlewere penned in scarcely average numbers, and showed a firmer tone. Best oxen in a few case* reached 29s per 1001b, others 25a to 28a, cows and heifers 21s to 25s per 1001b, steers sold at from £6 15s to £ll 12s 6d. Cows and heifers £5 to £lO. The quality of the beef was scarcely up to the average, being all light weight. Veal calves came forward in good numbers, and sold a shade higher. Heavy vealers sold at from £3 10s to £4 2s 6d, others £2 to £3 ss, lighter sorts 30s to 38s, smaller and fresh dropped 3s to 255. Sheep were yarded in good numbers, and Bhowed an improvement in price on last week's quotations. Best wethers sold at from 21s to 23s 3d, others 14s 6d to 20s, heavy ewes 18s to 21s 9d, others 12s to 17s, inferior fatted ewes 8s to lis 6d. Lambs were yarded in good supply, and sold at late rates. First quality sold at from Is 9d to 17s, others 10s 6d to 14s 3d, stores 7s to 9s 6d. Pigs were yarded in larger numbers than usual, and sold at advanced rates. Baconers sold at from £3 5s to £4 19s, large porkers £2 2s to £3 ss, porkers 32s to 40s, slips 20s to 31s, weaners 8s to 16s.
